so... megaupload is a goner.

dunno if this will effect us, because i hate rapidshare. :/ but then again, i'm also thinking of our files.

I'll just get Chikara set back up with his FTP set-up and the files will come straight to a temp folder here. Megaupload was just really easy for him.

alright. i also wanted to make this thread a discussion about sopa/pipa, so i'm not sure why the title thread was changed.

the whole stop online piracy thing is all over the place now.

Where does piracy and illegal acts stop?  Technically Youtube has stolen content all over it, as well as nearly every other website on earth.  Where is the line drawn?   ???

Ah, you mean for the stuff I host specifically. Well, I'll worry about it when it reaches that point, I suppose. Short term, Megaupload being shut down doesn't have too much of an effect on us. It's a good thing I just fixed up the video archive and made sure everything was up to date. Would have been a bigger pain in the butt otherwise.

i can imagine youtube will have a huge chunk of their video archive removed. a considerably huge chunk, maybe not a whole lot though. it goes by what the senate's definition of a 'rogue' site is; i recall reading that the consequences could be pretty bad: less than five days to remove everything and serious court threat action against them if people can't do it in time.

while it's focus is to strike down on pirating, the definition for them appears to be very loose and pretty much means just about everything. i've seen folks write on blogs about videos that weren't intended to be pirating at all still get the perma-ban from youtube and songwriter complaints, so it's like, "wtf".

censoring the internet is a bad idea. best to just leave it as it is. if folks had known that with computers and networking comes distribution, and emphasis in the modern times for digital means of getting things around like songs, videos, games, whathaveyou, they shoulda thought things out more.

i don't see it as being the end of days, lol, but they couldn't have picked a better time to help contribute-- or at least make an already downtrodden economy even worse.

yeah. i think i guess we'll just wait till what happens when the hearings and votes begin on the 24th. i just figure we should be prepared for the time being.

shame to see megaupload go though. i managed to get something from a friend right on the nick of time before the government wiped it out completely, so i guess it was impeccable timing all around.

Bah. That's worrying though, since Rule 34 had a link to it in their sidebar.
