I had everything set to random tonight for the sake of reminiscing, and I realized that with the large amount of content we now have, there also comes with it a large amount of 'crap' and 'wtf'. While these fit 'non-human sneezing', there's a certain amount of leniency that we've had in allowing clips into the archive. I don't seek to remove these clips, some are good in their own right, but I have begun to feel that the current method of 'everything's in a giant folder' may be a bit too overwhelming for most people.
I propose the solution of adding subfolders, and categorizing many/most of the video files into whatever possible. Initial ideas are canids, cats, mice, trunks, other mammals, reptiles, aquatic, inanimate, bizarre/unknown. I'm probably missing a few, but you get the idea. For now, I want to see if this idea would be worth the effort of digging through every video clip and the extra layer of effort for future updates.
As a note, this would be in addition to the master list. The master list would still exist, with everything in one folder for quick searches. This would be a secondary version of the gallery to allow for easier browsing rather than cross-checking if we have a clip already or not.

the gallery's been fine to me but i'm not opposed to maybe some organization. doesn't have to be extremely specific i guess.

I think thats a great idea. I think species would be a great way to start. also nose types would be nice.

I'm not sure how this would work or if it's feasible, but what about allowing the users to tag videos with whatever they want? Then sort by tags. If it's possible to implement something like that, then you wouldn't have to worry about how many different levels of sorting options you need.

If it's not a huge hassle, I'm all for organizing the video gallery. I agree that there's an awful lot to be all in one folder. But, I do know that it would take a while to sort through, so I'm fine either way.

There's no 'database' associated with the video archive, so my only options are folders and filename adjustments. For now I'd like to stick to folders. I've also seen the results of user-created tagging and am not a fan of it, additionally it requires an active userbase with tech knowledge and with no offense to the people around here, very few people even rate the artwork in the media gallery so I wouldn't expect user-tags to work very well. XD
