Title: [Announcement] Trying out a new Captcha thing to counter some bot problems
Post by: Furry-Sneezes on February 22, 2024, 10:19:03 pm
To the regular users, lmk if something stops working or becomes glitchy. I've had a lot of spam-bot registration issues recently and I threw a reCAPTCHA extension into the forum to try to combat it. Small chance it fixes the wider problems but ehh, doing what I can.

Hope I'll still be able to log in on my older computer, if I ever get logged out. The modern CAPTCHA tend to break em. But maybe I should just upgrade finally.

I hear you there, I'm an "upgrades bring new problems" type of guy, myself.

I haven't gotten any new member applications since I implemented this. If someone wants to test it out for me, I'd appreciate it. Darned decaying technology...

Nope.

That was a total failure.

So, apparently, I can only implement reCAPTCHA stuff with a v2 key infrastructure. Well, v2 keys can't be created anymore, only v3. There may be a way I can enable it site-wide rather than on-call for registration, but I think I'd need some help to achieve that.

If anyone understands what to do, reach out to me. For the time being, it's back to the old way and denying 4+ bots a day, I guess.
